We were asked to design a fundraising guide for the Sumatran Orangutan Society, an organisation that works to protect critically endangered Sumatran Orangutans.
Whilst thinking of a suitable image to illustrate the message that a small amount of money can go a long way, we noticed the correlation between the colour of Orangutans and one penny pieces. Then we came up with the idea of creating a mosaic of a young Orangutan (who we are calling Penny!) using nothing but pennies. We took advantage of the wide tonal variations found in penny coins from the last fifty years.
This led to us physically creating an art piece that we could give to SOS to auction at one of their charity fundraising evenings. It raised £3,000 for the charity, so worth every penny.
